March Recap: Exciting Milestones and New Projects at SHELFD
March was a busy and exciting month at SHELFD! From wrapping up major projects to starting fresh designs, we’ve been full steam ahead. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to:
Mini Cube Chairs at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of donating four mini cube chairs and ottomans to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. These pieces were designed specifically for the museum’s Sustainability Center, providing a cozy and functional spot for kids to engage with nature and learning. Seeing our work enhance an environment dedicated to education and exploration has been incredibly rewarding, and we’re excited to continue making a positive impact in the community.
🪵 The Rocker is Complete!
After weeks of meticulous work (and what seems like a million clamps later!), our new Rocker chair is officially complete—and it’s quickly becoming one of our favorite pieces to date. This project was all about precision and patience, as we used the steam-bending technique to shape the wood into smooth, elegant curves. The result? A striking chair that blends comfort, craftsmanship, and timeless design.
The Rocker isn’t just about looks—it’s built to provide a smooth, steady motion that invites you to relax and unwind. The gentle curve of the seat and back offers ergonomic support, making it the perfect addition to a cozy reading nook or a modern living space. We’re incredibly proud of how this piece turned out and are excited to showcase it to our audience.
🛋️ New Projects on the Bench
We’re keeping the momentum going with two exciting new projects:
Horizon Sofa –Building on the success of the Horizon soft seating collection, we’re expanding the line to include a stylish and comfortable sofa. With the same clean lines and sophisticated design, this new addition will elevate any space while maintaining the warmth and elegance of the original collection.
New Shelving Unit – We’re also diving into a custom shelving project that will add both form and function to any space. This new piece is designed to provide versatile storage solutions while maintaining the clean, modern aesthetic that defines SHELFD’s style.
🏢 Retail Space Coming in May 2025
We’re also thrilled to announce that SHELFD will be part of Design at 329, a curated collective of Chicago’s most unique vintage, antique, and modern design dealers. Located along the Chicago River near Chinatown at 329 W 18th St, this space will allow us to showcase our one-of-a-kind furniture and interior design expertise in a dynamic retail environment. Mark your calendars—our space opens in May 2025, and we can’t wait to invite you in!
🔜 What’s Next?
With these projects in the works and our upcoming retail space, we’re looking forward to a busy and creative season ahead. Stay tuned for updates and behind-the-scenes looks at our process as we continue to bring one-of-a-kind pieces to life.
